Amy Schusser is a ceramic artist/educator currently residing in New Bedford, MA. She received her MFA in 1992 from The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH and has her preliminary license to teach k-12th grade art. Her teaching experience includes working in a variety of educational institutions, public schools and art organizations.
In 2005 Amy was juried into the Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Teaching Partners Residency Program. Since then she has been a visiting artist at Joseph Case Junior High School in Swansea, MA; Spofford Pond School in Boxford, MA; The New Bedford Global Learning Charter School and at both Old Hammondtown School and The Center School in Mattapoisett, MA. Adapting her workshops to the schools curriculum she has guided students in The Japanese Tea Ceremony, Renaissance Vessels, The Art of The Mask and Ceramic Tile Murals.
Amy's work in clay includes large hand built vessels with incised, colorful imagery; one-of-a-kind miniature chairs, wheel thrown functional pots and most recently a series of organic, delicate sculptural forms. Her work has been exhibited in Savona, Italy; The Columbus Art Museum, Columbus, OH; The Firehouse Gallery, Damariscotta, ME; Bristol Community College; The Cherry and Webb Gallery, Fall River; Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, MI and The International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen, TX.
